Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) in Orthopedics/Sports Medicine coordinates clinical management of sports medicine patients, conducts comprehensive assessments, directs care with multidisciplinary teams, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, peri-operative services, and coordinates discharge planning. The APP participates in education of residents and medical/nursing students, provides care in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, and uses established guidelines to order tests, interpret results, and refer to other specialists as needed. Responsibilities include developing individualized plans of care, teaching patients and families, ensuring smooth transitions of care, collaborating with sports medicine faculty and staff, and contributing to program development and quality improvement. Requires NP or PA with relevant certifications (NCLEX/APRN licensure in WV, CNOR, BLS, and ARC-PA/NCCPA certifications as applicable).
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with master’s degree in nursing (NP)
- National Certification by recognized APRN Certification Centers
- Licensure or eligibility as RN/APRN in West Virginia
- CNOR Certification required
- BLS Certification with Advanced Life Support as determined by department
- PA qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s in PA, ARC-PA program, NCQA/NCCPA certification, WV medical licensure eligibility
- Experience in acute care, surgical, orthopedics or sports medicine preferred
- Eligible new graduates considered
- Master’s level PA preferred
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred
- Master’s degree in nursing for NP preferred
- NCCPA certification
- CNOR certification
- BLS with advanced life support
- ARC-PA accreditation for PA program
- CCNE accreditation for NP program
- Licensure or eligibility as RN/APRN in West Virginia
- Experience in acute care, surgical, orthopedics or sports medicine (preferred)
- Eligible new graduates considered
