Advanced Lead Engineer, Composite Mechanics
On-site · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
Job Summary
Lead technical investigations into damage initiation, progression, and criticality in wind turbine blade composites, directing damage characterization campaigns for GFRP/CFRP laminates and hybrid structures. Define and own blade damage tolerance strategies, supervise progressive failure analyses and continuum damage mechanics model validation against experimental data, and apply IEC 61400-5/IEC 61400-23 standards. Present technical findings to asset owners, operators and certifiers, while mentoring teams and coordinating cross-functional design, test, field and certification activities. Skills include interlaminar fracture testing, NDE/NDT (UT, thermography, AE), DIC-based damage mapping, FEA (Abaqus), Python/MATLAB data processing, and a strong track record in leading large-scale composite damage characterization programs and related publications/presentations.
Required Qualifications
- MEng / MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in composite structures with significant focus on damage mechanics and characterization
- Demonstrated experience leading experimental damage characterization programmes for thick-section glass, carbon fiber laminates or sandwich laminates
- Experience with large-scale or advanced composite structures and certification processes in high-performance industries
- Experience with FEA for damage modelling (e.g., Abaqus) and NDE/NDT methods (UT, thermography, AE)
- Publications or presentations in relevant composite conferences (e.g., ICCM, ECCM, SAMPE, AIAA)
- Familiarity with SHM systems and environmental/challenge factors for composites
