Job Summary
Interprets engineering drawings and schematics to construct, modify, debug, and calibrate tools, equipment, and electro-mechanical systems for prototype development. Conducts experiments to define process parameters, documents findings, and implements solutions for process improvement. Installs, removes, and maintains Mission Module equipment on Littoral Combat Ships, performing corrective, emergent, and preventative maintenance. Designs basic tooling and fixtures to accomplish unique tasks while operating test equipment and repairing cables or connectors. Works under general supervision to support engineering activities including design, fabrication, and assembly of specialized systems.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Department of Defense Secret security clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more
- Ability to climb 20 ft. ladders
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work in tight, restricted access quarters
- Ability to work aloft
- Ability to work in scaffolding
- Forklift operator's physical and proficiency tests
- Category II or III Crane operator's physical and proficiency tests
- Ability to travel 40% of the time
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
- Ability to work within the parameters and rules common to U.S. Naval vessels
- Ability to work from tech manuals, vendor documentation, schematics, and engineering drawing
- Proficiency in test equipment operations
- Cable repair/rework
- Connector repair/rework
- Ability to become the Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Experience with Navy maintenance, to include Ships Maintenance and Material Management (3M), Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with typical PC applications to include Word, Project, Excel and Access
- Ability to operate effectively in a distributed team environment
- Ability to effectively communicate customer initiatives, strategy and mission needs
Desired Qualifications
- Formally trained, operated, and maintained Navy's Surface Warfare (SUW), Mine Countermeasure (MCM) and systems and inter-workings of the LCS Class MM program
- Experience with 30mm guns on the LCS, LPD-17 Class, USMC Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) or similar chain guns
- Experience with 11m Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBS)
- Qualify as an operator and maintainer of RHIBS
- Experience in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
- Licensed Forklift Operator
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Familiar with U.S. Naval protocol and the ability to work directly with interfaces in uniform and with engineers in other companies
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Familiar with U.S. Navy Work Authorization Forms (WAF) and Tag-Out Programs
