Job Summary

Assess illness or injury to prioritize medical procedures and stabilize cardiac or non-breathing patients in a pre-hospital setting. Administer initial treatment at the emergency scene, record vital signs, and communicate with hospital personnel via HEMSI-approved methods. Document patient care accurately and maintain vehicle readiness through restocking, cleaning, and minor maintenance. Uphold safety protocols, drive with valid insurable status, and coordinate with volunteer responders as directed. Meet HEMSI response time standards while providing compassionate support to patients and families. Maintain current credentials and pursue ongoing training to ensure compliance with statewide Treatment Protocols and HEMSI Medical Control Physicians.

Required Qualifications

  • State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT
  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
  • EVOC
  • Valid and current driver's license
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • undergraduate EMT certificate
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence
