Job Summary
Respond to emergencies, administer medications, and coordinate with staff to ensure inmate health and safety. Perform patient assessments, interview patients regarding health problems and medication history, and take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight. Document medical history, administer and read PPD tests, and assist with maintenance of medical equipment and supplies. Complete intake screenings and ensure safety during medical procedures and transport. Observe and report changes in patients' physical or mental health to nurses. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare policies. New grads are encouraged to apply with EMT or Paramedic certification, BLS CPR, and a clean background check.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a higher-level Paramedic program
- Ability to obtain the necessary state licenses for EMT or Paramedic
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
