Job Summary
Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks while repairing equipment and performing new customer installations. Execute splicing and terminating of coaxial and fiber optic cables, mount active and passive devices in aerial and underground locations, and conduct signal leakage ride-outs to ensure optimal plant performance. Perform underground facility locates using electronic equipment, create maps and drawings for cost estimates, and survey customer-requested locations for service capability. Monitor plant continuously, repair damaged aerial or underground plant, and train system technical personnel as directed. Work a variable schedule including shift work, weekends, evenings, and holidays with overtime availability.
Required Qualifications
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position
- A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment
- Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances
- Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed
- The ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when on-call
- Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required
- Must be able to meet and maintain the requirements under the Company's DOT program, including successfully complete and pass a road test examination, driver's record safety review, drug testing, DOT physical, and past employer safety performance history
