Job Summary
Advance Technicians provide world class support by completing new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting in HFC and fiber optic networks. You will read and interpret system maps, verify as-built documentation, and report findings following standard processes. Daily duties include splicing/terminating coaxial and fiber cables (aerial and underground), mounting active/passive devices, activating devices, testing to ensure optimal performance, and performing surveys to determine service feasibility. The role requires knowledge of test equipment (OTDR, TDR, VOM, leakage meters), regulatory awareness (FCC/NEC/NESC/OSHA/DOT), a valid driver’s license, and flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Training is provided at Sparklight’s Technical Training Center within 6 months of hire, and there are opportunities for career growth and advancement within the company.
Required Qualifications
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training
- Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position
- Working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment
- Knowledgeable of FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT regulations
- Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed
- Ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions; willing to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Experience in reading and interpreting system/network design maps; preparing as-built documentation and cost estimates for plant/drop extensions
- Experience in splicing and terminating coaxial and fiber optic cables; installing devices; testing to ensure performance per specifications
- Experience with aerial and underground plant maintenance; knowledge of cable plant operations and leakage testing
