Job Summary
Report to the assigned intersection on time for each scheduled shift to assist students and families in safely crossing streets and intersections. Remain visible, alert, and actively engaged throughout the assignment while wearing District-issued safety equipment, including a reflective vest, identification badge, and stop paddle. Observe traffic conditions, identify potential safety hazards, and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or concerns to the Coordinator of Safety. Follow District attendance, call-off, and reporting procedures, and remain at the post for the entire scheduled period unless directed otherwise. Perform other related student-safety duties as assigned. Work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow while communicating clearly with students, families, staff, and community members.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Dependable and able to report consistently for both morning and afternoon assignments
- Successfully complete all required background checks
- Able to communicate appropriately with students, families, staff, and community members
- Able to follow directions and established safety procedures
- Have reliable transportation to and from the assigned location
- Must be willing to work at any assigned District location
- Must be able to stand and walk outdoors for the duration of the assignment
- Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Must be able to hold and operate a crossing-guard stop paddle
- Must be able to see and hear approaching traffic and communicate clearly with students and drivers
- Must be able to wear required safety equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or in a community-service role
