Job Summary

Adult Protective Investigator responsible for investigating abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults in Florida. Primary duties include assessing safety within 24 hours of report receipt, coordinating emergency services including medical evaluations, temporary placement, and court intervention when needed, conducting interviews and gathering evidentiary information, analyzing records and criminal history, and coordinating with state agencies, law enforcement, and prosecutors. The role involves wrapping around services to improve quality of life, building partnerships with community resources, and participating in a Career Ladder program for salary advancement after training. Requires meeting physical demands (including driving, entering residences, and navigating stairs), strong interviewing and report-writing skills, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations. Training of 6-8 weeks and a background check with fingerprinting are part of the process; a valid driver license and vehicle ownership/insurance are required. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawfully authorized to work in the U.S.; the position is designated as essential and may involve exposure to hazardous conditions. Veterans’ preference may apply.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of law enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or status that current service reflects serving honorably); or
  • An associate degree or 60+ credit hours from an accredited college or university and two years of professional work experience (examples include Guardian Ad Litem, Family Support Worker, Group Home Worker, Teacher's Assistant/Aide, Daycare Provider/Worker, Therapeutic Assistant, Behavioral Health Technician, Family Intervention Specialist, Home Health Aide, Nurse (LPN or RN) or similar profession, EMT, other welfare/education or medical professional jobs in high-paced environments) or two years of law enforcement experience or active military service; or
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
