Job Summary

Register patients accurately for emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and procedural services while obtaining complete demographic, insurance, and financial information. Verify insurance eligibility, collect co-pays and deductibles, and process admissions, transfers, and discharges to maintain a 97% registration accuracy standard. Obtain required signatures, apply identification bands, and refer self-pay patients to financial counseling. Answer incoming calls, process documents, and direct visitors throughout the facility. This role supports revenue cycle integrity, regulatory compliance, and patient throughput goals at the hospital's registrar office.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to register patients accurately for emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and procedural services
  • Must be able to obtain and enter complete demographic and billing information
  • Must maintain minimum registration accuracy standard of 97% or greater
  • Must be able to obtain all required signatures and consents
  • Must be able to process admissions, transfers, and discharges timely and accurately
  • Must be able to apply patient identification bands according to policy
  • Must be able to verify insurance eligibility and coverage
  • Must be able to collect and document insurance policy information
  • Must be able to collect and document subscriber information
  • Must be able to collect and document referral/preauthorization details
  • Must be able to collect and document workers compensation or auto claim information when applicable
  • Must be able to scan and maintain insurance cards and identification
  • Must be able to collect co-pays, deductibles, and patient balances according to policy
  • Must be able to document collection activity and payment discussions
  • Must be able to refer self-pay patients to Financial Counseling
  • Must be able to answer incoming calls professionally and route appropriately
  • Must be able to process incoming registration documents and faxes
  • Must be able to maintain organized patient records and filing practices
  • Must be able to direct patients and visitors appropriately throughout the facility

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous patient registration, scheduling, medical office, healthcare customer service, or admissions experience
  • Insurance verification or healthcare billing experience
