Job Summary
Admissions and Placement Specialist at the ASPCA Adoption Center & Kitten Nursery focused on matchmaking potential adopters with animals, counseling on medical/behavioral care, and guiding post-adoption success. Responsibilities include conversation-based adoption matching, approving or declining adoptions with explanations, counseling on animal care, coaching adopters and volunteers, maintaining animal records, performing adoptions onsite and via electronic forms, and coordinating with internal/external teams. Role requires empathy, strong customer service, ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, and flexibility to work 4/10-hour days including weekends at the 92nd Street NYC location. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma (required)
- Minimum of two years of customer or client service
- Minimum of five years of professional work experience
- Experience training or coaching preferred
- Fear Free certification required or must be obtained within first 90 days
- Animal handling experience strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; Spanish desirable
- Experience with shelter management software (PetPoint a plus)
- Ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 30 lbs
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced shelter environment
