Job Summary
Assess Blue Badge applications against Department for Transport eligibility criteria, review supporting evidence, and make informed decisions with accuracy. Serve as the first point of contact for customers via phone, email, and letter, providing clear advice, guidance, and a compassionate service while resolving conflicts effectively. Manage the administration of the Blue Badge process using government and internal systems to meet service targets and ensure efficient processing. This role is part of the Blue Badge Team at Suffolk County Council, where you will work in a busy, customer-focused environment. Following training, the position is primarily office-based with flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.
Required Qualifications
- excellent communication skills both written, verbal and digital, with ability to listen and question effectively to gather appropriate information
- Must be able to communicate with customers in a clear, polite and friendly manner, showing empathy where appropriate and resolving conflict effectively, through a range of mediums including telephone, digital and written correspondence
- good standard of literacy and grammar
- the ability to interrogate documentary evidence provided
- highly IT literate with a good working knowledge of basic office software systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet
- ability to understand and interpret policies and procedure documents in order to be able to give advice, guide applicants through the correct process and make decisions
- ability to thrive in a busy and target driven environment
- excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritise work to achieve deadlines and team objectives
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks or police vetting
