Job Summary

Oversee and coordinate administrative and operational functions for the Department of Public Safety, including human resources, budgeting, payroll, procurement, and records management. Supervise functional areas such as patrol operations, traffic enforcement, fleet management, investigations, training, and recruitment. Assist the Associate Director in developing policies, managing departmental budgets, and ensuring compliance with laws and procedures. Provide guidance during non-routine incidents, coordinate travel and logistics, and maintain confidential personnel files. Represent the department at university meetings and community engagements while maintaining relationships with external agencies. Serve as an on-call administrator responding to University communications and emergency situations. Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, with availability for on-call emergencies and university closings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years (4) of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement and/or security
  • Two years (2) at the rank of Sergeant or above
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain certification in the State of Missouri as a Police Officer under POST standards
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • U.S. citizen or legal resident
  • Free of felony convictions
  • Free of chemical dependency
  • Must maintain a reliable personal telephone contact number
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Ability to report for duty during emergencies or University closures
  • Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, or patrol for extended periods during 8–12 hour shifts
  • Ability to travel throughout campus on foot or by vehicle
  • Ability to run when necessary
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 25 pounds
  • Dexterity and coordination necessary to operate firearms, protective equipment, communications equipment, computers, and other assigned public safety equipment
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle or golf cart
  • Maintain visual and hearing acuity necessary for public safety duties
  • Ability to provide emergency first aid, including CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and appropriate decision-making
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and emotional control in stressful or high-pressure environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to recall and interpret details related to incidents, investigations, and interactions
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to weather, noise, and other operational hazards
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, some nights, some evenings, weekend, holidays, and after hours' work
  • Must be available for on call emergencies
  • Ability to work and attend virtual meetings remotely if necessary

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminology, law enforcement, business administration, public administration or related field
