Job Summary
Answer phones, screen calls, and greet visitors while independently referring inquiries to appropriate personnel. Prepare and post job announcements to websites, update descriptions, and distribute postings to agencies and organizations. Process new hires by scheduling background checks, drug tests, and orientations, while maintaining employee files, scanning documents, and managing office supply inventory. Interpret Human Resources policies for staff, assist with Open Records Requests, and handle correspondence for retiree insurance payments and late payments.
Required Qualifications
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures
- Knowledge of employment laws
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Skill in prioritizing multiple projects and organizing work
- Skill in the maintenance of files and records
- Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine and copier
- Skill in oral and written communication; excellent verbal, written and telephone skills
- Must be able to work independently
- Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle confidential situations and documentation
- Ability to speak effectively and give presentations before groups
- High school diploma or GED
- Current valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in working in a Human Resources environment and local government is preferred
