Job Summary
High-level administrative support for Brown University Health employees in a hospital/health system setting. Responsibilities include typing a variety of materials (including memos, reports, grant proposals, manuscripts), editing for grammar and content, composing rough and final drafts, designing forms, answering phones and greeting visitors, calendar management and travel arrangements for supervisors, scheduling inter-departmental meetings, coordinating major national/international events and symposia, maintaining department records and statistics, budget monitoring and cost analysis, inventory management, purchasing and vendor liaison, and conducting library research to guide supervisors. Requires familiarity with medical/technical terminology, independent judgment, strong typing skills, and excellent English grammar and interpersonal abilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required
- Up to one year specialized training including coursework in correspondence typing, medical terminology and general business procedures
- Proficient typing skills required to prepare a variety of materials
- Good knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; understanding of medical terminology often required
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment in daily duties
- Experience: A minimum of one to two years experience in similar administrative role (hospital/health system environment preferred)
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate supervisor’s schedule and national conference arrangements; ability to maintain complex records
- Ability to operate office equipment (CRT, word processor, calculator, photocopier, dictation equipment)
