Job Summary
Teach assigned Surgical Technology laboratory courses and implement curriculum objectives as directed by the Program Director. Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrations related to surgical technology skills, including surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, operating room preparation, and case management. Demonstrate proper techniques and supervise students during laboratory practice and competency assessments. Prepare, administer, and evaluate written and practical examinations, skills check-offs, and student assessments. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, competencies, and academic progress. Develop lesson plans, instructional activities, and laboratory exercises aligned with program outcomes. Assist with selecting and maintaining instructional materials, supplies, and laboratory resources. Promote professionalism, ethical behavior, and appropriate attitudes required in the healthcare environment. Maintain a safe, organized, and effective laboratory learning environment. Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and program activities as assigned. Maintain current knowledge of surgical technology practices and industry expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Knowledge of current surgical technology practices, procedures, instrumentation, and operating room standards
- Ability to effectively demonstrate and teach hands-on technical skills
- Strong understanding of sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety practices
- Ability to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Strong commitment to student learning and professional development
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with institutional policies and procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology (AS/AA) or equivalent education in the field
- Teaching experience
