Job Summary
Instruct First Year Initiative or Experience courses for flight majors, aviation trainees, mixed cohorts, or HEOP students using engaging discussions and group exercises. Balance lecture with in-class methodologies while formulating lesson plans and presentations that customize content for academic and social integration. Participate in pre-semester, mid-semester, and post-semester curriculum alignment meetings, then share syllabi and curricular innovations with faculty and the Director of Student Success. Collaborate with internal and external departments to bring guest speakers into the classroom, and submit attendance, census, and grade data via SONIS. Deliver instruction in-person or remotely via Zoom, adapting to specific student populations such as airframe/powerplant or flight majors.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree for FYI
- Bachelor's degree for FYE
- Demonstrated ability to teach a college-level course
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Zoom
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to think critically and logically
- Ability to evaluate and guide student progress relevant to fulfilling course objectives and outcomes
- For ATI major courses, knowledge of the FAA Airframe and Powerplant licensure
- For flight major courses, knowledge of FAA flight certifications (e.g., private pilot, instrument)
Desired Qualifications
- Doctoral or master's degree in a relevant discipline or in education
- Experience with functions of academic support (e.g., tutoring, advisement) or student services (e.g., student activities, student clubs)
- For asynchronous courses, evidence of having developed high-quality online content
