Job Summary

Facilitate instruction, direction, and support for students in the classroom environment, managing diverse class sizes through sections and group activities. Deliver rich, timely feedback on student work while holding two office hours weekly and remaining available by appointment for individual or group meetings. Provide timely answers to student inquiries outside class time regarding course material or academic matters. Enter final course grades by deadline after consultation with lead faculty or program director, and alert department chair or program director to student issues including performance or policy violations. Comply with all pertinent university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be professing Christians
  • Active, faithful members of a congregation of the Churches of Christ
  • Willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university
  • Must have at least 18 hours of graduate theological education
  • Particular experience relevant to the courses assigned
  • Commitment to the ACU Mission and policies and to the integration of faith and learning
  • Must be capable of meeting the physical demands required for teaching in the classroom and/or online
  • Must be able to manage conversations in person, online and by telephone
  • Must work well under pressure and manage stress well
  • Must communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions
  • Must have computer literacy in common software and internet-based applications
  • Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Must have the ability to view and manage role and responsibilities in relation to larger mission, goals and perspective of the university
  • Must have collaborative nature, with the ability to build consensus
  • Must have outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Must be self-motivated and solves problems, asking for input and initiating solutions as appropriate and reasonable
  • Must have capacity to learn new software applications and learning management systems, e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
  • Must have willingness to receive additional training and/or faculty mentoring
  • Must have ability to demonstrate good judgment when interacting with students, other faculty and staff
  • Must be able to hold a minimum of two office hours per week
  • Must be available by appointment for in-person or virtual meetings with students individually or in groups
  • Must provide timely and helpful answers to students' inquiries outside of class time, regarding course material or academic matters
  • Must enter final course grades by deadline, after consultation with lead faculty and/or program director
  • Must alert department chair and/or program director to any student issues
  • Must comply with all pertinent policies and procedures outlined in Abilene Christian University's Handbook, Faculty Guidelines, and those specified by ACU's College of Biblical Studies
  • Must provide feedback to program director for program and/or course improvement
  • Must attend/complete program and faculty trainings and provide credentialing/records updates as required
