Job Summary
Assist special needs students throughout the school day by supporting classroom operations, facilitating instructional groups, and collecting data as assigned. Load and unload wheelchair-bound students on the bus and participate in physical activities that are part of the students' basic program. Demonstrate understanding of student problems while maintaining a firm hand, courtesy, and fairness. Work with emotionally, physically, and mentally impaired students while maintaining composure under stressful conditions. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Required Qualifications
- Workkeys with a passing score of Level 2
- Passing Para Pathways assessment
- 60 credit hours (official transcripts required)
- Bachelor's Degree (official transcripts required)
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to frequently push/pull up to 90 pounds
- Ability to regularly reach with hands and arms
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, and talk or hear
- Ability to occasionally sit, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Ability to occasionally climb or balance
- Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to bend at the trunk more than the average person
