Job Summary
Provide medical assessment, admission, stabilization, and ongoing management of patients admitted for medically supervised withdrawal at the Springhill Inpatient Withdrawal Management Unit. Diagnose and manage alcohol and substance withdrawal using evidence-based protocols, while initiating and optimizing pharmacologic treatments including Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT). Conduct comprehensive outpatient Addiction Medicine assessments and follow-up at the Recovery Support Centre, developing individualized treatment plans and facilitating referrals to community programs. Collaborate with nursing, social work, and allied health professionals to ensure safe discharge planning and seamless transitions across the continuum of care. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. This 0.4 FTE role offers flexible weekday daytime scheduling and may be shared among multiple physicians, with occasional clinical support to the Amherst Recovery Support Centre as operationally required.
Required Qualifications
- Hold a current medical license issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS), or be eligible for licensure.
- Be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as appropriate.
- Hold, or be eligible to obtain, active medical staff privileges with Nova Scotia Health.
- Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in Addiction Medicine through the College of Family Physicians of Canada or another recognized certifying body.
- Experience in Addiction Medicine, inpatient withdrawal management, Opioid Agonist Treatment, or substance use care.
