Job Summary
Design a specialized adaptive physical education curriculum and weekly lesson plans addressing individual student goals and NYS Learning Standards. Create an aquatic programming component in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team to meet IEP objectives. Lead a team of paraprofessionals while maintaining accurate record keeping and IEP Goal tracking documentation. Establish an organized, safe learning environment ensuring proper inventory and use of equipment according to each child's physical abilities. Participate in meetings with education staff and the multidisciplinary team regarding student needs. Adhere to daily school schedules and mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and families.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education
- NYS certification in Physical Education
- Complete required practicum in Physical Education
- Minimum of one-year experience in related setting working with children
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
- Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this School, which includes a medical and physical examination
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children, if necessary
Desired Qualifications
- 12-18 credit concentration in Adapted Physical Education
- Master's Degree in Adapted Physical Education
- Concentration in Adapted Physical Education
- Minimum of one-year experience in related setting working with children with multiple disabilities
