Job Summary
Design a specialized adaptive physical education curriculum and weekly lesson plans addressing individual student goals and NYS Learning Standards. Lead a team of paraprofessionals to implement aquatic programming and create a safe, organized learning environment while maintaining accurate IEP goal tracking and equipment inventory. Collaborate with transdisciplinary staff on multidisciplinary meetings to ensure programs meet each child's specific needs and foster growth across all abilities. Adhere to daily school schedules, mandatory in-services, and John A. Coleman policies regarding safety, confidentiality, and infection control. Work in a well-lit, ventilated area with frequent interruptions, potentially requiring assistance in evacuation and adherence to health standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education
- NYS certification in Physical Education
- Complete required practicum in Physical Education
- Minimum of one-year experience in related setting working with children with multiple disabilities
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
- Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this School, which includes a medical and physical examination
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children, if necessary
Desired Qualifications
- 12-18 credit concentration in Adapted Physical Education
- Master's Degree in Adapted Physical Education
- concentration in Adapted Physical Education
- Minimum of one-year experience in related setting working with children with multiple disabilities preferred
