Job Summary
Adapted Physical Education Teacher to deliver individualized, developmentally appropriate PE experiences for students ages 3–26 with complex needs in a center-based school setting. Responsibilities include adapting activities/equipment/environments, promoting gross motor skills and physical fitness, implementing positive behavior supports, ensuring safe use and maintenance of adapted equipment, applying Adapted PE theory with AAC/inclusive curriculum, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to implement MOVE, monitoring student health and safety, developing schedules, evaluating program needs, ordering equipment, supporting staff and paraprofessionals, and participating in professional development. Required credentials include a valid Michigan teaching certificate with cognitive impairment endorsement; SP endorsement or willingness to obtain; CPR/First Aid; lifeguard certification; CAPE option; experience with autism and challenging behaviors is preferred; 190-day full-year calendar with union benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with SA (Cognitive Impairment) endorsement required
- SP endorsement (Physical Education for Students with Disabilities) highly preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
- CAPE certification is acceptable to provide services in Michigan as a related service provider in lieu of the SP endorsement
- Credentials must meet Michigan special education requirements
- Experience teaching students with autism preferred
- Experience working with students with challenging behaviors preferred
- Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent required
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification required
- CPR/First Aid Certification required
