Job Summary

Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in the acute inpatient setting under direct supervision of a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse. Perform pre- and post-treatment vital signs, obtain weights, and calculate dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration and sodium modeling. Set up and prime equipment, verify safety alarms, and monitor patient responses to interventions. Document all incidents, complaints, and treatment details in the hospital Electronic Medical System and Acute Care Electronic System. Collect and label specimens for laboratory delivery, evaluate intradialytic problems, and assist with patient ambulation and discharge procedures. Report any unusual findings immediately to the supervising RN.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or its equivalent
Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
Effective communication skills – both verbal and written
Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs up as high as 5 feet
Must be able to assist in moving machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs
Must be able to bend over
Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
Must be able to work in a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels
Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
Must be able to perform personal computer work while standing and sitting
Must be able to interact with patients, facility staff and physicians
Must be able to perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment- documentation
Must be able to obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Must be able to evaluate the patient prior to discharge
Must be able to report any change or unusual findings to FMCNA RN
Must be able to evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician's order or as directed by FMCNA RN

Must be able to provide patient care under the direct supervision of Hemodialysis Registered Nurse the FKC RN for assigned patient(s) in the dialysis suite in the acute setting
Must be able to report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN
Must be able to set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement and peritoneal dialysis therapies)
Must be able to assure the dialysis machine has been set up, tested and found to be safe for dialysis treatment in accordance with manufacturer instructions for use and company policy and procedures
Must be able to document information appropriately in the individual patient record to include the hospital Electronic Medical System (EMS) and the Acute Care Electronic System (ACES)
Must be able to obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
