Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive health appraisals, physical examinations, and direct clinical care for patients with complex advanced heart failure, VADs, and general cardiology conditions. Prescribe medications, order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures, while evaluating needs for further health care. Provide primary service to an average load of 7 patients daily, offering comprehensive teaching to patients, families, and staff. Document all care and education in medical records, serve as a consultant to other disciplines, and participate in quality improvement and research initiatives. Maintain certifications including ACLS and BLS, and mentor graduate students as a preceptor. Work 4x10 hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays; no nights or on-call required.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Acute care certification required for APRNs
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
- Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO)
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required as specified by department
- Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois
- Once licensed may apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number
