Job Summary
Plan, direct, and implement activity therapy programs as a component of the patient's treatment plan. Complete activity assessments through observation and interviews to identify patient needs, skills, and interests. Facilitate sessions improving mental and physical well-being by instructing patients in sports, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques. Develop treatment plans and modify activities to suit specific group needs while helping patients learn social skills for independence. Engage patients in therapeutic exercises, games, and community outings, maintaining a positive, empathetic attitude and prioritizing patient safety. Acknowledge and resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field
- Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification
- Certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
- Clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification

- Previous experience in recreation in a healthcare setting
