Job Summary

Conduct individual, family, and process-oriented group therapy sessions for adult, adolescent, or child patients under DBHH care. Participate in formulating treatment plans, establish goals, and monitor patient progress through documentation in group and individual notes. Consult with doctors, case managers, and nursing staff to provide quality care, while reporting to community or state agencies on patient issues as required by law. Represent the hospital in legal proceedings and uphold facility safety, infection control, and security standards. Report to community and/or state agencies regarding any patient issues as required by law.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with certification in a relevant field (e.g., recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, occupational therapy)
  • A minimum of 2 year experience in a field relevant to the therapy specialty area or combination education and experience
  • Healthcare and inpatient psychiatric experience
  • CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) license
  • Approved CPR certification
  • Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior training including restraint and seclusion policies
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand for sustained period of time, walk, pull, lift, raise and move objects from position to position (up to 50 lbs)
  • Must be able to finger grasp; feel sizes, shapes, temperatures, and textures
  • Must be able to express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately, or quickly
  • Must be able to visually detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, assess
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sound with or without correction
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, or fingers
  • Must successfully pass background check
  • Must successfully pass drug screen
  • Must be able to provide positive employment references
  • Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be a good listener
  • Must have a pleasant demeanor that encourages and engages others
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must have strong time management skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree, licensed eligible or with certification/license
  • Excellent communication, assessment, evaluation, and interpretations skills
  • Teaching or training experience
  • Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment
  • Flexibility
  • Understanding of, or ability to understand, DSMIIIR methodology
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of mental health
  • Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health
