Job Summary
Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program meeting the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs of residents. Complete resident activity assessments, develop individualized care plans, and maintain a monthly calendar covering group, individual, evening, weekend, and holiday programming. Supervise activity staff, mentor team members, and coordinate volunteers and community organizations including local entertainers and schools. Recruit volunteers, manage the department budget, maintain inventory, and order supplies. Monitor residents for condition changes, communicate concerns to nursing and interdisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings and QAPI initiatives. Decorate the facility for holidays, birthdays, and special events. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist residents throughout the workday
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to push wheelchairs and transport residents safely throughout the facility
- Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions
- Must possess sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions safely
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as an Activity Director or eligibility to obtain certification
- Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or senior services
- Supervisory or leadership experience
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing activity programming in long-term care
- Experience working with residents living with dementia
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate residents, staff, volunteers, and families
- Creative, energetic, compassionate, and resident-focused
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary team
