Job Summary

Plan, coordinate, and implement active and passive activities in neighborhood levels to address residents' varying abilities. Assist the Program Director in creating the monthly Activity Calendar, maintaining resident social history files, and notifying families of personal supply needs. Provide supportive activities in comfortable environments for residents unable to tolerate group stimulation. Meet new residents and families upon arrival, inform them of the program, and coordinate all activity programming with the Director. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, submit monthly supply lists, and coordinate with the Dietary Department regarding food-related needs. Work weekends with hours determined by the Program Director; ability to travel locally for supply purchases and resident outings required. Valid state driver's license or ID is mandatory.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with dementia residents in long-term care
  • Basic knowledge of current dementia-care practices and communication strategies
  • At least minimal experience in planning and directing activities for elderly residents, and in planning and organizing special programs for residents, families and staff
  • Good verbal communication skills, including ability to give directions to others in a manner that is pleasant and easily understood
  • Ability to display enthusiasm and a positive attitude in promoting activities, and in enlisting the support of facility team members for activity programming
  • Must have a valid state driver's license or ID
  • Able to work part-time as agreed upon with Program Director
  • Ability to travel locally if necessary, to purchase supplies and participate in resident outings
  • Medium work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Must be able to see well enough to write and read English, use computer, and visually interact with residents, families, visitors and staff
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families, visitors and staff
