Activities Assistant

Job Summary

Plan, organize, and lead daily activities and special events to promote social connection and wellness for residents. Conduct new resident orientations, track attendance, and ensure all activities follow community policies. Provide transportation for residents, maintain activity supply inventories, and assist in developing the monthly calendar and quarterly newsletter. Recruit and organize volunteers, assist the Activity Director, and educate residents on emergency plans and drills. Maintain resident confidentiality, support tours, and assume Activity Director duties during absences. Ensure coverage is scheduled to maintain the resident activity roster.

Required Qualifications

  • Weekend Availability Required: Candidates must be available to work at least one weekend day on a regular basis.
  • Flexibility to occasionally adjust work hours is also required to support resident activities and special events that may occur during the evening.
  • Must possess knowledge of activities that will meet residents' mental, physical, social, and spiritual needs.
  • Must possess excellent writing and editing skills
  • Must be able to multitask and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills to communicate with residents, families, and staff.
  • Must show compassion and genuinely care for the elderly and disabled.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the location of the MSDS sheets on hazardous materials and able to understand the guidelines.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team to prioritize work load as emergencies arise.
  • Must possess current, active driver's license with an excellent driving record.
  • A CDL may be required for large vans in accordance with state requirements.
  • Must have working knowledge of personal computers, scanners, digital cameras, copiers and printers.
  • Must have previous experience in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), Publisher, Print Shop, and the ability to work with other applicable software.
  • Must possess knowledge of activities that will meet residents' mental, physical, social, and spiritual needs.

  • Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Drives and/or accompanies residents to outside activities frequently, occasionally in inclement weather.

Desired Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a care facility desired.
  • Certified Activity Director, Recreational Therapist, or Occupational Therapist is desired.
