Job Summary

ACT Peer Support Specialist position within the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) department. The role involves assisting individuals in understanding and utilizing mental health and substance use services, modeling recovery, and demonstrating ongoing coping skills. The position is 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with some evenings and weekends as required. It is an in-person assignment located at 1131 Ionia Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, with daily community travel. Eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for loan forgiveness programs; includes emphasis on serving diverse communities and bridging language/cultural barriers. Requires in-person work and a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation; prior certification as a Peer Support Specialist or attainment within the first year is required. Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Certification as Peer Support Specialist or able to obtain certification within first year of employment
  • Primary diagnosis of a mental health condition; lived experience with mental health condition
  • Have been a recipient of mental health treatment and/or services for at least one year
  • Personal experience in navigating complex mental health treatment services
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use
  • Ongoing stability of symptoms and recovery with ability to help others who may be experiencing behavioral health symptoms/crisis
  • Knowledge about mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders as well as about recovery and crisis planning
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and data entry
