Job Summary

Utilize the approved medical practices process to deliver patient care across physical, psycho-social, and educational criteria on hospital medicine floors. Manage primary and urgent medical management, including emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, while supervising residents, fellows, and medical students. Collaborate with staff nurses, discharge coordinators, and the medical director to plan, implement, and evaluate medical and nursing care. Provide education to patient families, staff, and the community, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards. Work a flexible schedule including 24/7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing (NP)
  • Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program (PA)
  • Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice (NP)
  • License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice (PA)
  • NCCPA Certified (PA)
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Clinic Nurse Specialist by either AACN or ANCC (NP)
  • Certification as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (NP)
  • Certification as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (PA)
  • Certification from the American Heart Association (NP)
  • Certification from the American Heart Association (PA)
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (NP)
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners (PA)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
