Job Summary
Welcome and orient University of Mary nursing students to the nursing practice setting, modeling standards of professional nursing practice as a clinical expert, mentor, and leader. Cultivate hands-on practice experiences for students in the Medical Surgical Acute care setting using varied clinical instruction strategies that challenge growth in critical thinking and clinical judgment. Provide on-site clinical instruction for two students while simultaneously assuming a typical department patient care assignment. Deliver regular, specific verbal and written feedback regarding student clinical performance to University of Mary faculty, focusing on both strengths and areas for growth. Attend required Division of Nursing meetings and participate in continuing education to maintain currency with clinical practices and simulation technology.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree
- Minimum two years of bedside nursing experience in the respective area (ICU/PCU)
- Current unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Dakota
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Formal preceptor training and/or experience in the role of preceptor with evidence of strong performance
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and meet required deadlines
- Knowledge and application of advanced nursing skills with the ability to critically think in complex situations
