Job Summary
Conduct peer counseling and support for clients with substance use disorders, validating their experiences and encouraging active participation in recovery. Provide mentorship, outreach, and crisis intervention under clinical supervision while offering expertise on medication side effects and treatment responses. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to maximize client self-determination, reduce stigma, and organize social activities that build community connections. Serve as the liaison between the team and consumer-run programs such as self-help groups and drop-in centers. Work flexible hours from noon to 8 PM Sunday through Thursday with a valid driver's license and personal vehicle access required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Addictions Recovery Coach (CARC), or willing to obtain certification within six months of hire
- Candidate who identifies as being in recovery from a substance use disorder and is willing to share details of his or her personal recovery experience
- Enthusiastic about providing support to clients in early recovery from a substance use disorder and is open to multiple pathways of recovery from substance use
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team
- Valid driver's license, access to personal vehicle, and good driving record required
- Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential
- Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services
