Job Summary
Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and journal entries. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, while directly supervising Accounts Payable staff and overseeing all accounts payable functions. Review vendor invoices, expense reimbursements, and payments to ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies. Partner with department leaders to support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets. Assist the Controller in preparing financial statements and IRS Form 990 supporting documentation. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization while supporting operational growth and long-term sustainability within a mission-driven environment focused on empowering Veterans with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior supervisory experience, including managing accounting or accounts payable staff
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Proficiency with accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Office suite
- Proven track record in multi-departmental budgeting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- High adaptability, comfortable working with ambiguity, and a track record of creating processes where none existed
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- CPA designation preferred but not required
