Job Summary
Accountant in Tokyo responsible for managing balance sheet reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing, processing of expense claims and vendor invoices, maintaining general ledger integrity, managing corporate credit card reconciliation and policy compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional Tokyo and regional finance teams. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, Japanese (native) and English proficiency, and strong Excel skills. Preferred CPA qualification (or in progress) and Nissho Bookkeeping Level 2+; IFRS or JGAAP knowledge; ERP experience (SAP or similar) and Concur; familiarity with Japanese consumption tax and withholding tax. The role emphasizes accounting accuracy, internal controls, process improvement, and cross-cultural collaboration in a multinational publishing environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Nissho Bookkeeping Certification (Level 2 or above preferred)
- CPA qualification is a plus
- 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance operations, including exposure to month-end close
- Familiarity with internal control framework is preferred
- Self-starter with a positive and collaborative attitude
- Strong Excel skills
- Knowledge of IFRS or JGAAP
- Native-level Japanese (reading, writing, speaking)
- Business-level English
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- ERP experience (SAP or similar) (Nice-to-have)
- Concur experience (Nice-to-have)
- Experience with internal control/compliance environment (Nice-to-have)
- Strong analytical skills
