Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for day-to-day financial operations for a nonprofit, including preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate records, and supporting budgeting and grant reporting. Responsibilities include ensuring GAAP/nonprofit and IRS compliance for 501(c)(3) organizations, managing restricted/unrestricted funds and donor contributions, coordinating annual financial audits, reconciling donations between donor database and accounting software, maintaining and cleaning accounting databases, responding to ad-hoc financial requests, assisting in annual budgeting, and leading special projects such as risk management initiatives under the Director of Finance. Required skills include excellent communication, attention to detail, strong analytical abilities, multi-tasking, confidentiality, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software; preferred qualifications include a Masters, 6+ years nonprofit experience, and CPA/CMA certification. Work environment is office-based with some after-hours meetings or events; travel locally is possible.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field
  • 3 - 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud Financial Edge, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
