Job Summary
Process payroll, prepare journal entries, and reconcile bank and investment accounts. Lead month-end and year-end close activities, coordinate annual audits and Form 990 preparation, and ensure GAAP compliance. Track restricted and unrestricted funds, administer capital expenditures, and support grant accounting and donor compliance. Prepare financial reports, maintain fixed asset records, and strengthen internal controls through process improvements. Collaborate with the Finance Director and cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and improve workflows. Full-time, 40 hours/week, hybrid eligible after onboarding. Starting salary $78,000–$83,000. Located at New Moms' main office in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- Four (4) or more years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Knowledge of government grant guidelines and restricted fund accounting
- Payroll processing experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and GAAP
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Experience improving financial systems, processes, and internal controls
- Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to walk stairs
- Must be able to lift up to 30–40 lbs (or perform with reasonable accommodation)
Desired Qualifications
- CPA and/or Master's degree
- Experience with NetSuite
