Job Summary
Based at Westville Correctional Facility, the Accountant processes Accounts Payable and Fund transactions in PeopleSoft, reconciles accounts, prepares financial reports (balance sheets and income statements), verifies accuracy of financial documents, ensures funds are available before authorizing payments, and may assist in developing accounting procedures. The role emphasizes public/government accounting knowledge, ability to communicate in writing and orally, arithmetic accuracy, and readiness to handle supervisory responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.
- Foundational knowledge of agency function and organization.
- Foundational knowledge of the federal and state laws, procedures, practices and policies of governmental accounting and bookkeeping.
- Foundational knowledge of automated accounting systems.
- Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to solve standard accounting problems.
- Ability to evaluate and recommend modifications to existing accounting methods and procedures.
- Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports.
- Effective communication skills.
- A degree is not required.
