Job Summary
Accountant coordinates and manages financial resources to ensure the timely and accurate completion of all assigned responsibilities across Bonds and Fines, Inmate Accounts, Special Fund Accounts, Treasurer Deposits, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Petty Cash, Purchasing Cards (P-Cards), and Travel expenditures. This role maintains compliance with established accounting principles, internal controls, and security procedures governing these areas. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field and one year of accounting experience. Responsibilities include performing accounting tasks such as classification of revenue and expenditure transactions, journalizing accounting transactions, preparing closing period adjustments, reviewing and auditing financial documents, preparing trial balances and reconciliations, compiling financial reports and schedules, assisting with budget preparation and internal controls, reviewing invoices, and communicating effectively with peers and external contacts. Familiarity with A/P, A/R, and County financial systems is expected, along with the ability to work in a professional, ethical environment with potential exposure to public sector processes. The role may involve training and evaluating subordinates and collaborating with various stakeholders to improve systems and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field
- One (1) year of accounting experience
- Valid Arizona driver’s license or ability to obtain by time of hire
