Job Summary
Maintain, update, and modify accounting procedures; reconcile bank statements, payroll deductions, vendor payments, and interfund transactions. Prepare monthly and yearly financial statements, FFVP claims, and state reports; process travel reimbursements and journal entries for transportation and fuel. Monitor and resolve interfund payables and receivables; perform internal audits of cash handling and review requisitions. Submit payroll taxes, employee benefits reports, and GASB-compliant documentation to agencies. This role supports the Bibb County Public Schools accounting team by ensuring accurate reporting for federal, local, and state programs while maintaining strict internal controls.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and procedures
- Knowledge of internal controls
- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to analyze organizational, management, and statistical information and to prepare clear, concise written and oral reports pertaining to this information
- Knowledge of computerized accounting programs
- Ability to work under pressure and handle deadlines
- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with school employees, vendors, and the general public
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to perform works requiring meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Skill in typing and/or operation of a computer keyboard
- Good mathematical/accounting skills
- Good organizational skills
- Bachelor's Degree with a major in accounting
- Minimum of three years of experience in the field of accounting
- Basic comprehension of computerized accounting systems
