Accountant (Accounting Policy & Research) - Intermediate or Senior

Job Summary
Conduct technical accounting research in accordance with GAAP, SEC, and FERC requirements, documenting conclusions in policy memoranda for new transactions including leases, financial instruments, consolidations, and joint ventures. Perform accounting and financial reporting for retirement and postretirement benefit plans, share-based compensation, derivatives, and contingent liabilities while coordinating with actuaries for valuation assumptions. Assist in implementing new accounting pronouncements, reviewing contracts for embedded derivatives, and supporting Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Provide support to Fortis Inc. on complex accounting matters and special projects. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, minimum of two to five years of experience, and proficiency in FASB, GAAP, and SEC literature. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education
- Intermediate level: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting
- Senior level: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
- ITC does not sponsor employment visas, such as H-1B or TN visas
Desired Qualifications
- Public accounting experience preferred
- CPA preferred
- Accounting research experience preferred
- Experience with Sarbanes Oxley compliance preferred
- Ability to research and analyze various types of data
- Highly organized and attentive to detail
- Proficient knowledge of FASB, GAAP, and SEC authoritative literature
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Possesses sound analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex accounting and other issues
- Above average ability to utilize technology to complete daily assignments
- Above average knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems
