Job Summary
As part of the Historical Clothing and Dress Team, the Accessories Craftsperson collaborates to provide researched reproduction costume accessories for costumed interpretive staff. Responsibilities include producing and maintaining accessory stock (shoes, hats, gloves, jewelry, kerchiefs, stockings, etc.), fitting and advising costumed staff on wear and maintenance, and applying a range of sewing techniques (patterning, machine and hand sewing; occasional use of chemical cleaners). The role monitors stock levels, initiates requisitions for constructed items, maintains inventory of purchased items, and serves as a liaison between customers, ERHI units, and vendors. It also involves researching dress accessory items for historic programming, preparing research reports, and generating process instructions for new items. The position supports collaboration within the Accessories Team and Manager to ensure quality, workflow, and timely production, with duties potentially evolving over time and eligible for overtime under FLSA.
Required Qualifications
- High School Education or G.E.D diploma
- Excellent sewing skills (hand and machine)
- Additional fiber art skills (embroidery, knitting, hat making, etc.)
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment
- Age requirement of at least 21 years
- No more than specified moving violations within set timeframes
