Job Summary
Check materials in and out, retrieve and shelf items in call number order, and resolve routine circulation and equipment issues. Fulfill requests for materials while assisting users in locating stacks contents. Update and troubleshoot item records, complete shelf-reading and shifting projects, and perform electronic or print searches to verify information. Provide functional oversight to student assistants by training them and offering performance feedback. Coordinate staff for collection management, monitor space utilization, and assist with serials and monographs for binding. Follow established protocols to resolve policy infractions by halting actions, explaining policies, or reporting serious violations.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree
- up to 2 years customer service experience
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing work environment
- Organizational ability and aptitude for detailed work
- Demonstrated experience with new and emerging technologies
- Ability to work with specialized desktop applications
- Ability to work with the internet
- Demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly and effectively
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members
- Full-time employment (39 hours/week)
- Based in Ithaca, NY
- Fully on-site work location
- Core hours Sunday to Thursday 10:00am - 6:30pm
Desired Qualifications
- Library experience
- Knowledge of Library of Congress (LC) classification system
