Job Summary
Provide direct student-facing academic advising to undergraduate students enrolled at the university, applying holistic advising and retention-focused strategies. Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success, persistence, and graduation. Utilize multiple systems and analytics tools to monitor progress, support onboarding from New Student Orientation, and connect students with resources such as tutoring, counseling, career services, internships, and study abroad opportunities. Comfortable working in a team environment with flexibility for hybrid work at ASU’s West Valley campus. Strong communication, relationship-building, and utilization of technology to assist students in choosing options best suited to their goals and skills.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field
- Direct academic advising experience with undergraduate student populations
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence- based, academic advising strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure, programs, colleges, departments, and organizations
- Experience in interpreting student needs and determining when to liaise with other university resources
- Experience in designing presentation materials and evidence of effective oral presentations in group settings
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and use emotional intelligence
- Evidence of professional maturity, discretion, and judgment
- Experience in applying the principles, techniques, and methods of teamwork, compromise, and collaboration to produce desired outcomes
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and other interested parties
- Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies, and methods
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and independently, while operating effectively in an organizational hierarchy
- Experience with use of internet-based research tools and Microsoft Office computer applications
- Experience with Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and other student tracking tools preferred
- Working Environment: physically comfortable office setting with some travel/standing
