Job Summary
Academic Coach serves as a liaison between South Texas College and other entities involved in competency-based and other modality degree programs; manages students and monitors their course progress to ensure maximum success; collaborates with department chairs to implement and supervise elements critical to program success, including orientations, curriculum development, budget administration, and student recruitment. Responsibilities include training demonstrations, assisting teachers with instruction pacing, maintaining course inventories and program data, advising students on degree planning, coordinating support services, and facilitating communication among faculty, students, and external partners. Requires master’s-level education, several years of advising/case-management experience in higher education, strong communication and computer skills, ability to travel across the college district, and capacity to work evenings/weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration or related field required
- At least three (3) years of experience advising students or in case management required
- Experience in a higher education institution, preferred
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Willingness to travel throughout the college district using own transportation
- Security Sensitive position with background checks
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business material and regulations
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
