Job Summary
Academic Advisor for the Philosophy Department's new Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence Certificate, primarily supporting certificate students and advising across multiple departments. Responsibilities include implementing advising events (workshops, panels, guest speakers), serving as a main contact for students, guiding curricular options and degree requirements, enabling enrollment management, contributing to student programs and large-scale on-campus events, and participating in SOAR programming. The role requires in-person work on campus with 1-2 remote days per week after onboarding, and may include evenings/weekends. Strong collaboration with departmental colleagues, confidentiality and FERPA compliance, and proactive student engagement are essential.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of experience in student services in higher education or a related field
- Professional or college experience in philosophy; computer, data or information science fields
- Teaching experience in higher education or secondary education
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively within and for a diverse community
- Demonstrated adaptability and the ability to manage uncertainty in a dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism in communicating with faculty, staff, students, families, and the general public
- Excellent written, verbal and problem-solving skills
- Proven commitment and ability to work with diverse student populations
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred in Philosophy; Computer, Information or Data Science; Arts & Humanities, Counseling and/or adult and higher education or related field)
- Master’s degree preferred (preferred in Philosophy; Computer, Information or Data Science; Arts & Humanities, Counseling and/or adult and higher education or related field)
