Job Summary
Academic Advisor responsible for comprehensive student advising in the Advising, Retention + Career Center, covering academic and career advising, degree requirements, course planning, and student development. Responsibilities include interpreting university policies (FERPA and degree requirements), advising on course selections, substitutions/waivers, degree planning, and coordinating with faculty advisors; delivering individual and group advising for majors/minors/certificates; administering career assessments and creating four-year plans; developing programs and seminars on college success and career exploration; implementing early warning interventions, and maintaining confidential student records. Requires a bachelor’s degree, strong communication and organizational skills, and ability to collaborate with a diverse campus community; experience with advising best practices and proactive student support is preferred, with a master’s degree considered favorable.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge of best practices to promote student academic success and career exploration
- Ability to learn, understand and explain processes and requirements
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and meet goals and work well under time pressure and respond to multiple demands
- Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive member of a team
