Job Summary

Provide developmental academic advising for new and continuing students using a case management approach. Support students in defining personal and academic career goals, interpreting placement scores, understanding program curricula and prerequisites, and developing registration skills. Refer students to appropriate internal and external resources that foster student success. Assist students in gaining a basic understanding of the College's registration process and maintain current knowledge of academic programs, curriculum, practices, and policies. Coordinate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs areas to ensure accuracy of advising materials. Manage academic advising case loads to promote retention, persistence, and student success through proactive interactions. Monitor student progress through regular meetings, communications, interventions, assessments, and data collection. Maintain academic advising records in compliance with College and FERPA regulations. Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment and actively participate in professional development opportunities and college-wide committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related fields
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling or related higher education area
  • One (1) year of experience with a Master's degree
  • Experience working with and being committed to diverse communities
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications including student records management systems and online social media tools
  • Administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service attributes
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the College students and employees
  • Fully supports the College's mission and strategic plan initiatives

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of one to two years of relevant experience demonstrating leadership qualities
  • Community College experience or credential
