Academic Advisor- Graduate Nursing

Job Summary

Conduct academic advising for graduate nursing students, assisting with course registration, decision-making, and monitoring grades and absenteeism. Participate in recruiting events on and off campus, meeting with prospective students, responding to inquiries, and facilitating program orientations. Collaborate with the graduate nursing director and faculty to resolve schedule conflicts, communicate student concerns, and ensure seamless program transitions. Maintain student files in Navigate, document communications, and track retention data. Assist in developing course schedules, creating course numbers in the CLSS system, and monitoring enrollment levels. Submit documentation for low enrollment and complete school surveys for AACN, WLN, CCNE, and US News. Work evenings and weekends as needed, with some travel and five days on-campus weekly.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to load, unload, transport, and set up recruiting materials, displays, and equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds
  • Ability to travel to on- and off-campus recruitment events and other work-related locations
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Exhibits strict confidentiality
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
  • Must be available evenings and weekends as needed
  • Required to be on campus five days a week
  • Some travel is required

  • Experience advising students on academic policies, practices and available support services
  • Experience collaborating with admissions staff
  • Experience communicating with students regarding academic status and progression
  • Experience working with prospective students
  • Experience responding to inquiries
  • Experience providing program curriculum information
  • Experience assisting with program orientations involving faculty and other staff members
  • Experience monitoring grades and absenteeism
  • Experience maintaining retention/attrition records
  • Experience collecting data as assigned
  • Experience maintaining and updating nursing student files
  • Experience reviewing marketing brochures and website for program detail accuracy
  • Experience working closely with the Graduate Nursing Admissions counselor
  • Experience working closely with the graduate nursing director and dean of the school of nursing
  • Experience working closely with graduate nursing director and faculty
  • Experience working closely with admissions staff
  • Experience working closely with graduate nursing director
  • Experience representing the university at recruitment events, college fairs, information sessions, and other activities supporting Admissions and School of Nursing recruitment efforts
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Friendly and customer-oriented when working with students, faculty, and callers
